What Release Day is Really Like...
It's release day for me, and I thought I'd give you a peek at my 'to-do' list for today. Many of you have already gone through the 'publish' process, but most of you are just diving into the book-writing adventure.
I'll tell you right now, release days are highly stressful.
There's a constant expectation that something will go wrong.
They're filled with worry over forgetting something, someone, or a monster plot hole.
They're a dark hole of emotion that your book will fail, everyone will hate it, or even worse -- no one will read it.
But in the midst of all of THAT, they are also very exciting. Because you know that your baby is out into the world, and strangers are reading your innermost thoughts, and forming opinions, and riding the roller coaster that is your story. They are so rewarding, because - regardless of sales - it is proof that you DID something, you CREATED something, you made a world from nothing, and breathed life into it. Those late nights, that hair-pulling, and cursing, and writers block moments -- those were all WORTH it, and they suddenly seem so minor when you are holding a paperback in your hand, with your name printed on its front.
Release days are terrifying, but they are also the best. I can't wait for yours to come.
